The 12,500 square foot student union is unique. The students voted an increase in student activity fees on themselves to pay for the facility and selected the architects for the project.
As designer and principal in charge, Mark Russell, A. I. A. worked closely with a student design committee throughout the development of the facility comprised of study lounges, a graphic arts center, student tutorial conference rooms, a 150 seat media and multi-purpose lecture center, student union administrative offices and a student pub and snack bar with a full kitchen, outdoor patio and video arcade. The main entry has been oriented toward the campus student quad lawn for outdoor concerts and other events. The facility has been designed to accommodate future expansion phases and the eventual relocation of the campus bookstore.
